NELSON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1954

Carroll (COVENTRY) Klein

Family:

Our family consists of Michelle, born in Pouce Coupe, her husband George, and their three-year-ole son, Eli, our only grandchild.  Renee, born in Nelson, has a mental illness that she manages with great strength.  David, born in Vernon, and his wife Dannielle.  Renee and David live in Vernon and Michelle lives in Port Alberni.  We manage to be together fairly often and love to gather at the cabin we still have on Kootenay Lake.

Present Activities:

I have enjoyed doing volunteer work in music organizations and in groups in which my children were involved, as well as in mental health organizations.  For many years we held a support group in our home for families of people with mental illnesses.  The last couple of years I have started an interest in family history that began when a cousin loaned me a diary kept by my grandmother.

Past and Present Work:

I have worked as a bookkeeper and for a few years was administrator of Vernon Community Music School.  Now Herb and I have a business called Gemini Golf Services.  He has all the expertise and does all the work in custom building and repairing golf clubs – I keep the books.

A Message to All:

The Class of ’54 – that has a ring to it!  I really enjoy our reunions.  It’s great to see everyone again and wonderful when someone comes after a long absence or for the first time.  Many thanks to those who have put in time to make the reunions happen.

Carroll Joan Klein (nee Coventry)

Klein, Carroll Joan (nee Coventry) 1936 – 2015

We are so sad to share the news of Carroll’s sudden passing on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Carroll was predeceased by her husband, Herb, in 2010. Carroll’s laughter and love will be deeply missed by her daughters Michelle (George and grandson, Eli) and Renee, her son David (Suzanne), her sister-in-law Laura and many friends.

Carroll grew up in Nelson where she was active in the United Church and Mrs. Ferguson’s choir. She loved summer holidays at the family “camp” on Kootenay Lake, and worked at the family business (Coventry Flowers) until her marriage to Herb in 1957. Herb and Carroll raised their family in Vernon where Carroll was involved with the church choir, Vernon Music School, the BC Schizophrenia Society, and Herb’s business, Gemini Golf. They spent summers at “camp” and in 2009 moved back to Nelson full time.

Carroll loved her lake property and her life. She maintained her joy of music, was learning guitar and how to knit, and was researching her family tree. She pampered a large African violet and houseplant collection, enjoyed her garden and took daily strolls along the beach, where she collected treasures from arrowheads to pieces of glass. Carroll was a big fan of living naturally and her spiritual beliefs were a constant strength in her life. She continues her souls evolving journey now and leaves her imprint in our hearts.
