Jack GREENWOOD

Greenwood, Jack Barry.  November 5 1936 - January 23 2012

Jack passed away with his loving family at his side at lions gate hospital on Monday morning. His sudden passing was tempered by a special evening Jack spent celebrating his grandson, Jamie's  22nd birthday(Jack the 4th).  Jack lived a full life, larger then most, he had no regrets, save a few more years to share with is family and friends. He was a true character and  touched many people in profound ways and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Sharleen Bellis Greenwood, his first wife Valerie Sealey Greenwood, his sister Dawne Dunsmore and niece Cheryl Dunsmore, his three children Andrew (Dianne), Beth and Jay (Jacqueline) and grand children a plenty, Diana, Christina, Jamie Jack, Daniel, Sydney, David, Logan and Annabelle.A special thanks to his good friend Neil Thomson, for his lasting friendship.

Jack was born in Nelson BC, where his character was formed, with great influence from his mother Mary Irene Phillips Greenwood and especially his father John Henry McMullen Greenwood.
The family moved in 1954 to Vancouver where Jack attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a degree in finance. Jack went to work with his father at Nelson Machinery, where he formed many lasting friendships with staff and clients. Jack was active in the mining and business community, he was president of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and president of the BC Chamber of Commerce and member of the BC and Yukon Chamber of Mines . He retired to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii), his long time dream, bought an art gallery, Rainbows, of course Jack never really retired, with Sharleen at his side he immersed himself in Hiada culture and was adopted by Theresa Yeltatzie and into the Haida Raven Clan.
His proudest accomplishment was the founding of the BC Museum of Mines at Britannia Beach, BC. He knew that educating young people was one of the most important things a person could do and it will be Jacks lasting legacy that he accomplished exactly that.
