NELSON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1954

John MOORE

Family:

I am in my second marriage and have three daughters by my first marriage.  I am now married to Elaine and between us we have six children and six grandchildren.  Our kids live in NY, LA and Toronto.

Present Activities:

I still do a lot of long distance bike riding and also hack away with a camera.

Work Before Retirement:

I retired October 5, 03 after 42 years in the investment management industry.  I am now doing work in the not-for-profit sector and going to start a new, little business this year.  This will NOT be in the investment management business.

Some Favourite Memories:

My favourite memory of Nelson is everything.  We had the best of times.  There was a post war sweetness about growing up in the 50s (especially in Nelson) and looking back I think our generation lucked out.  No war, no depression, lots of jobs, great music, lots of heroes (my favourites were Clark Kent, Stan Musial (baseball), Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Holly, Daisy Mae, Pogo and my Aunt and Uncle: Marg and Nap Lupton who I lived with in Nelson).  My favourite teacher was Gerry Macdonnell who taught us English.  The guys that I walked to school with had names like Merk, Defe, Horsey and Gort.  Merk and Defe are both dead now but I talked to them, and saw Mark, and what wonderful friendships we had.  Life long and how good is that.  I went out with Peggy Owen so it will be nice to see her again and with Mary Lou Harrison.  Both nice memories.  I loved Nelson so much that I have never taken my kids to see it because I was afraid that it couldn’t live up to all the great stories that I told them.  They are all grown now and still bugging me to take them to Nelson.
