Sydney (SWINGLER) Hall

Family:

I have two daughters: Sandra Saowapon (husband, Chaithawat Saowapon) and grandchildren, Matthew, Jean-Luc and Andrew - living in Chiang Mai, Thailand; daughter Jocelyn Bystrom (husband Dale) and grandchildren, Keith and Kristen – living in Comox, BC.

Present Activities:

Retired; but very busy with “grandma care” for my grandchildren in Comox, Altar Guild at St. Peter’s Anglican Church and other church volunteer work, Newcomers Alumnae in the Comox Valley.

Pre-Retirement Work:

Six years in hospital dietetics, 29 years teaching home economics, mostly in Alberta.

Memories of School Days in Nelson:

My fondest memory is of all the students in Central School singing WWII hymns and Christmas carols on the entrance stairs.  It was a heartwarming experience.  If you had a childhood in Nelson you were blessed.  You lived in a beautiful, safe town with four seasons, very good people, schools, teachers, churches, sports and activities.  Our family moved to Calgary in 1948 so I only had one year of junior high in Nelson.  Some had bad memories of the Home Economics class; but mine were all good.  I went on to be a Home Economics teacher.
