You have probably figured out that I didn’t graduate from high school in Nelson, but according to Alyse Mathisen, I can still be considered part of the class of ’54.

I was born in Fernie, B.C.  We moved to Nelson and I attended Hume School.  My father supplied the coal for the CPR until they converted to diesel.  We then moved to California because of my father’s health.  We settled in Lodi and I attended Needham Elementary School and graduated from Lodi Union High School.  I attended California Polytechnic College and that’s where I met my wife, Linda.  We were married in 1958.

We have two children – Heather Lynne, born in Los Angeles in 1961, and Matthew Lee, born in Lodi in 1962.  Heather is married and lives nearby.  She and her husband own a Grade A dairy.  Matt is single and lives in Lodi.  He works as an electrician.

We live in the country on ten acres.  There are over 1,000 trees with grass and I maintain it year round.  When my wife has a vacation from work, we try to travel – usually to Canada as we have friends and relatives in various parts of Canada.

When Linda and I were married, we moved to Buena Park, CA where I worked for a tire retread manufacturer.  The company was bought out by Super Mold located in Lodi, and we returned to Lodi where I worked for twenty years, first as a mechanical engineer and then as Purchasing and Materials Inventory Manager.  I then worked for Circle AW Products (electrical) for four years.  I was also part owner of Century Metal Buildings, a steel building manufacturer.

I semi-retired in 1988 to build our home in the country, near-east of Lodi, and fully retired in 1990 due to a severe stroke.

One of the things I remember from Hume School was when my fifth grade class made birdhouses.  I still have a picture of my class with each of us holding our birdhouses. I will bring the picture with me when Linda and I attend the reunion.
