 Family:

Judith and I have four children, Karen and family now live in nearby
Shawnigan Lake. She teaches French Immersion Kindergarten.Catherine is a
landscaper and librarian in Comox. Shannon still runs the office of the
Senior Vice President at CIBC and Rod works for a manufacturing company in Kelowna. We have six grandaughters, ages 10 to 29 and one grandson, age 7.Not a single great grandchild in sight.

Present Activities:

We spend a lot of time cruising on our 34ft boat in the Southern Gulf Islands and up and down the inland waters. I am still very active with Rotary, mostly in Student Exchange. We are both members of Probus and are active at the Yacht Club. I still paint watercolours regularly and Judith still has a small class of piano students, plus a ladies choir. We seem to be very, very busy.....or is it just that it takes us longer to do things...

Work Before Retirement:

My first year after graduation I worked for Coventry’s Flower Shop.  In May 1955 I joined the Bank of Commerce and there I stayed for 35 years.  After two years in Nelson with the Bank, my odyssey around the Province began with my first move to Salmon Arm.  Judy Allen (the School Superintendent’s daughter) joined me there, shortly thereafter as Judy McIvor.  There followed over the years moves to Ladner, Whalley, Vancouver, Victoria, Port Alberni, Invermere, Creston, Campbell River and finally to Duncan, where I took early retirement in 1990.  I also spent nine years in municipal politics.

 Some Favorite Memories:

I remember vividly my first day at Nelson Junior High.  Grade seven.  Miss Etter’s class.  Ben Crawford marched me down the hall, opened the door, said, “I have a new student for you” and took me up to the front of the room.  I was terribly shy and wanted to just die.  To top it off, there was no desk for me.  That I finished school was only because I discovered girls and the Band program.

On reflection and after our travels through most of the Province, I think that Nelson was the perfect place to grow up: four definite seasons, recreation opportunities of every type, and somewhat isolated, small town feeling.

Obituary of Scott Nelson McIvor

On Tuesday, September 3rd, we said goodbye to our beloved Scott McIvor. Cherished husband of 62 years to Judy, father to Karen (Goreas), Catherine (Knight), Shannon (Dressel) and Rod McIvor. Scott was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was a man of many achievements. One of the finest was his amazing ability to form friendships and devote his time to community service in all of the places he has lived over his lifetime. He was a man of multiple passions and talents: boating, music, hockey, art, anything with an engine, outdoors, family, business, books, creativity, and humour. He was a marvelous story and joke-teller, CIBC manager for 25 years, 9 years as a Councillor for District of North Cowichan, master of many ceremonies, and kilt-wearer! To quote his niece Jill, "Uncle Scott was a legend, a McIvor and a half! He had bottomless hospitality, insurmountable party spirit, and contagious energy."
