Barbara (McCANDLISH) Renwick

On September 29th, 2019 at 1:00 PM Barbara (Barb) Joan Renwick died peacefully. Her family was by her side telling her how much she is loved as she took her last breath.

Barb was 83 years old, born on June 26th, 1936 in Edmonton Alberta. Her family moved to Grande Prairie and Red Deer in her youth.

Barb came to Nelson at the age of 15 with her mother Hildur Isakson McCandlish Kilberg (deceased) and brothers Don McCandlish (deceased) and Bob McCandlish after the passing of her father Mickey McCandlish, who was laid to rest in Nelson.

Barb met the love of her life, Pat Renwick while in High School. The first time she laid eyes on Pat she said to herself, “I’m going to marry that guy someday.” Pat and Barb shared 63 beautiful years of marriage. She embraced her role as matriarch of her family.

Barb cherished her children Scott Renwick and Karen Renwick and her grandchildren Jason Renwick, Jenalee Renwick, Jordan Hunter and Matt Thast.

Barb was an avid reader and a constant patron of the Nelson Library. She expressed her gratitude by donating shelves to the library in each of her grandchildren’s names. She was very community minded and volunteered her time at municipal and federal elections, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, United Way, The Cancer Foundation, Kootenay Lake Hospital and Touchstone Museum.

Barb loved to write poetry, do crossword puzzles and was a member of several bridge clubs. She held several positions at the Granite Pointe Golf Club, was an avid skier and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Barb will be eternally remembered and loved by her family and dear friends.
